To have StomaToGo ready to use in a moments notice, have the waste bag placed over the Bag Holder and inserted into the Base after its last use. When first learning to use StomaToGo, getting the waste bag ready takes the most time. So this suggestion has StomaToGo ready in a few seconds.
Replacement parts are available for purchase on the web site. However, it you think the breakage was due to a faulty part, please reach us at mark@stomatogo.com
Our recommendation would be to use a 4 gallon plastic waste bag, preferably a black or dark gray one to hide the contents. The reason a 4 gallon one is suggested is they are large enough to loop enough over the Bag Holder and provide enough of the waste bag to grip as it is being installed.
Of course each persons body shape and stoma location will determine whether or not this will work but we suggest removing the Stabilizer Bar in that situation.
New ones can be purchased on the web site or any similar strap that is 1 inch wide and serves the same purpose can be used.
Having StomaToGo in a high temperature environment is discouraged since it is plastic. The plastic can be warped with real high temperatures. Washing it with regular dish soap should be done in warm water by hand. Also avoid getting any caustic chemicals on the device. Also avoid placing any heavy weight on it to prevent breakage.
There are two optional carriers available to purchase on the web site, one is wide and better suited for towelettes or folder paper towels, the other should hold most adhesive removers. The dimensions of both are in their product description. These carriers can be hung onto one of the hooks on the Base unit.
The most important thing to do when using the Shield Holder is to move the Bag Rest to the side or back before hanging the waste bag on the Shield Holder. And another recommendation is to remove the Shield Holder waste bag when the change is done and drop it into the waste bag before anything else is done. Doing this first will allow you to position the Bag Rest to prevent your new stoma bag falling into the waste bag.
If you do not need to use the Bag Rest it can be removed. However, when the change is completed avoid dropping your new bag so it will come in contact with the waste bag and become soiled, when ready to remove StomaToGo from your torso. The Bag Rest would have been used to avoid this happening. So make sure and hang onto the new stoma bag with one hand, while gripping the side of the base with the same hand, and then undo the strap and remove StomaToGo from the torso with the other hand.
The strap provided with StomaToGo is 5 foot (60 inches) long. The strap can be cut to size. Just make sure and remove the strap strip holder and place it on the open end of the strap. If you need to replace the strip holder, just cut 1 1/2-to-2-inch section of the strap off the end and then cut that in half.
There are two versions of a center post cap.
One is two parts that fit on the top of the center post. Its purpose is to prevent the Bag Rest from accidentally falling off of the center post during transport. It fits tightly on the center post but can be removed. If it is too tight to remove by just pulling on it, then hold the base in one hand at the bottom of the center post and pull the Bag Rest from the center post removing the cap as well. It can also be removed using pliers if necessary.
The other center post cap (newer one) just screws onto the base center post and can be tightened, loosened, or removed.
