Quick Setup for Emergency Use
To have StomaToGo ready to use in a moment's notice, have the waste bag placed over the Bag Holder and inserted into the Base after its last use. When first learning to use StomaToGo, getting the waste bag ready takes the most time. This suggestion has StomaToGo ready in a few seconds.
Recommended Waste Bag
Our recommendation would be to use a 4 gallon plastic waste bag, preferably a black or dark gray one to hide the contents.
Why 4 gallons? They are large enough to loop over the Bag Holder and provide enough waste bag material to grip as it is being installed.
Adjusting for Body Shape
Of course each person's body shape and stoma location will determine whether or not this will work, but we suggest removing the Stabilizer Bar in situations where the standard configuration doesn't fit comfortably.
Strap Options
New straps can be purchased from Amazon, or any similar strap that is 1 inch wide and serves the same purpose can be used.
Care and Maintenance
- Temperature: Avoid high temperature environments as the plastic can warp
- Cleaning: Wash with regular dish soap in warm water by hand
- Chemicals: Avoid caustic chemicals on the device
- Storage: Avoid placing heavy weight on it to prevent breakage
Cleaning Supply Carrier
Included in the full package is a Cleaning Supply Carrier. It can be used to hold:
- Towelettes
- Folded paper towels
- Most adhesive removers
The carrier can be hung onto one of the hooks on the Base unit.
Using the Shield Holder
Important: The most important thing to do when using the Shield Holder is to move the Bag Rest to the side or back before hanging the waste bag on the Shield Holder.
Recommended sequence: Remove the Shield Holder waste bag when the change is done and drop it into the waste bag before anything else is done. This allows you to position the Bag Rest to prevent your new stoma bag from falling into the waste bag.
Removing StomaToGo Safely
If you do not need to use the Bag Rest, it can be removed. However, when the change is completed, avoid dropping your new bag so it will come in contact with the waste bag and become soiled.
Proper removal technique:
- Hold onto the new stoma bag with one hand
- Grip the side of the base with the same hand
- Undo the strap with the other hand
- Remove StomaToGo from the torso
Sizing the Strap / Replacing Strap Strip Holder
The strap provided with StomaToGo is 5 feet (60 inches) long. The strap can be cut to size.
Instructions:
- Remove the strap strip holder
- Cut the strap to your desired length
- Place the strip holder on the open end of the strap
Replacing the strip holder: Cut a 1ยฝ-to-2-inch section of the strap off the end, then cut that in half.
